February 20th, 2010Had A Great Valentines Day

I am one of those girls that absolutely loves Valentines day. Not because I’m eager for gifts or a fancy night out (although those things certainly are fun), but because it’s a chance for my partner and I to take some time out from our busy lives and actually focus on each other! It’s something that doesn’t happen as often as we like, as we both have busy careers as well as two beautiful children! Valentines is the perfect day to get a babysitter and go out for a romantic evening!

However, this year we got to thinking about the history of valentines day and started to read about it online. Actually this site about dating online has a very interesting write up about the history of valentines day, saint valentine, cupid and more so it’s worth a read if you’re interested in that sort of thing. It’s also a good way to prove to your partner that Valentines day is not simply a holiday made up by the chocolate and greeting card companies!

February 15th, 2010Vacation Rentals Versus Hotels

If you’re tired of the outrageous fees that hotels charge for very small spaces, then you might want to consider a vacation rental home for your next trip. In fact, in many cases you can find luxury vacation rentals for the price of a nice hotel. The difference is that you get a much larger place for around the same price. Personally, I prefer to rent vacation homes rather than stay in hotels, as I don’t like the lack of privacy that comes with staying in a hotel. Also, vacation rentals are generally much more flexible when it comes to checking in and out, and I find that they just fit my style better. You can watch this funny video for more information:

If you’re looking to buy your first home, you’ll be happy to know that the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit has been approved to run until April 30 2010. This means that the credit has been extended and that  many first time buyers will be able to use it in order to save a significant amount of money. The credit is actually applicable to both first time buyers as well as anyone who hasn’t owned a home in the past three years.

The credit is worth up to $8,000 and so it’s a major incentive for people to enter the market, which of course stimulates the economy. Those that may be weary about entering the market should be aware that prices are going to rise as the economy recovers, and so now is the time to enter the real estate market. This is especially true given the savings available through the tax credit that is being offered.

There is a very in depth video on this topic that explains more details concerning the tax credit. It also goes over the benefits to the economy, and how real estate has played a major role in the recovery from past recessions. It’s quite an interesting video, so feel free to enjoy it below:

February 2nd, 2010Furniture Shopping Time

As some of you may know, I am a really decorator at heart, and even considered interior design as a profession some time back. While I ultimately decided to go in a different direction career wise, design has always been a passion of mine, and so I naturally love buying new furniture pieces for my home. I actually dream of where furniture pieces will look best in my home, and envision them in my head before going out shopping. Maybe it’s  a little weird, but that’s now I get an idea for what kind of furniture to go out shopping for.

Right now there are a few furniture pieces needed for the master bedroom, as we are going to redo the entire thing, giving the room a total makeover. When we’re done it will have an ultra modern look, and will be unlike any bedroom we’ve had in the past. It’s kind of edgy really, but I’m all about taking risks both in fashion and in decorating my home. Hopefully it will get good reviews from my friends, but if not, they don’t really spend any time in my bedroom anyway. However, I know it will be a look that my hubby and I will adore.

Bluetooth earpieces are becoming more and more popular all the time, as consumers want a safe, hands free way to handle their calls. If you’re currently shopping for a bluetooth earpiece, then I have a recommendation for you: the Plantronics Discovery 975. The Plantronics Discovery 975 is an excellent choice because it offers advanced noise cancelling technology along with extended battery life and a comfortable fit.  It’s simple to use and lets you handle your calls with ease, so check it out if you’re seeking a new bluetooth earpiece.

January 28th, 2010Affordable Eyeglasses Online

If you’re tired of paying through the nose for eyeglasses, then you’ll be happy to learn that you no longer have to. That’s because instead of paying the exorbitant prices that retail eyeglass stores charge, there is an internet shop called Zenni Optical that offers high quality eyeglasses at a fraction of the price you’ll find in stores. Zenni Optical is able to do this because they produce their own glasses, cut out the middle man, and sell directly to consumers like you and me. Also, they have a very small advertising budget and no retail stores, so they are able to keep their overhead relatively low. Thankfully, they have chosen to pass on the savings to their customers, which means great deals for all eyeglass wearers!

It’s so nice that it’s possible to buy affordable high quality eyeglasses, and not surprisingly, Zenni Optical and their low prices have been getting a lot of press! In fact, I read an article about Zenni Optical on the examiner.com website just the other day. The Examiner.com author does a full review of the company, and so you might want to head on over there and read it if you’re wanting to learn more about Zenni.

January 27th, 2010Looking At Promo Products

If you run a business that you are looking to promote, you might consider sending out promotional products to your customers, or potential customers. Items like hats, shirts, personalized pens, stress balls, pencils, water bottles, magnets, key chains and more all make great promotional products, and you never know when they will lead to a sale. It is especially important to consider ordering such products if your business frequents trade shows, as generally people who frequent such shows are looking to purchase goods at some point, so they might as well have something with your number on it!

Because promotional products are usually ordered in large or bulk quantities they can be had for low prices, especially online. If you do a quick internet search you’ll be able to quickly find a large variety of promo products that can be personalized to reflect your company’s name, message and logo. It’s an effective and low cost method of advertising, so if you run a business it’s something to consider.

January 27th, 2010Considering A Small Trip

Man, do I ever need a vacation! Work has been very hectic and it seems like everyday one of my darling children has a new activity that they need to get to. Also, money has been tight and my husband has been very stressed out at his job. All of these things add up to a stressed out family and we really need a holiday. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to jet away to Hawaii, Paris, Rome or, well, anywhere actually. But we can afford a camping trip!

While the weather is not ideal for camping right now, it’s still doable as we live in a pretty mild climate. I actually like it when it gets cold at night as it means lots of cuddling by the roaring camp fire! We won’t really be roughing it anyway, as my parents have a pretty nice and new rv that we are able to borrow anytime. Actually, they weren’t sure how much use they would get out of the RV when they first bought it, but it has really turned into a great thing for the whole family. My parents, my husband and I (and our children), and his brothers family all use it. Especially in these tough times RVing and camping are just ideal for an affordable vacation.
