February 28th, 2010Save Money On Eyeglasses

As anyone who wears glasses knows, the prices for new eyeglasses can be very expensive. Even if you’re not seeking the newest styles for top end designers, the price for eyeglasses is generally somewhere in the three figure range. Personally, I buy pretty standard glasses and have an uncomplicated prescription, and it still costs me around four hundred dollars to purchase new glasses. I’m certainly not rich, so that’s very expensive for me! Thankfully, there is now a cheaper way to buy glasses, and that’s by visiting the ecommerce eyeglass store called ZenniOptical.com.

There was actually an article about Zenni wrote on the Examiner.com website, where the review the company in detail. It’s a good read if you want to learn more about the company. What I found out is that they are able to offer such extraordinary low prices on eyeglasses because they manufacturer their own glasses and then sell directly to the consumer via the internet. Also, they have an extremely low advertising budget which helps to keep their overhead costs low. All of this means that they can offer the lowest prices possible while still offering very high quality glasses. It’s just so nice that it’s finally possible to buy quality eyewear at low prices!

February 20th, 2010Had A Great Valentines Day

I am one of those girls that absolutely loves Valentines day. Not because I’m eager for gifts or a fancy night out (although those things certainly are fun), but because it’s a chance for my partner and I to take some time out from our busy lives and actually focus on each other! It’s something that doesn’t happen as often as we like, as we both have busy careers as well as two beautiful children! Valentines is the perfect day to get a babysitter and go out for a romantic evening!

However, this year we got to thinking about the history of valentines day and started to read about it online. Actually this site about dating online has a very interesting write up about the history of valentines day, saint valentine, cupid and more so it’s worth a read if you’re interested in that sort of thing. It’s also a good way to prove to your partner that Valentines day is not simply a holiday made up by the chocolate and greeting card companies!

February 15th, 2010Vacation Rentals Versus Hotels

If you’re tired of the outrageous fees that hotels charge for very small spaces, then you might want to consider a vacation rental home for your next trip. In fact, in many cases you can find luxury vacation rentals for the price of a nice hotel. The difference is that you get a much larger place for around the same price. Personally, I prefer to rent vacation homes rather than stay in hotels, as I don’t like the lack of privacy that comes with staying in a hotel. Also, vacation rentals are generally much more flexible when it comes to checking in and out, and I find that they just fit my style better. You can watch this funny video for more information:

If you’re looking to buy your first home, you’ll be happy to know that the First Time Home Buyer Tax Credit has been approved to run until April 30 2010. This means that the credit has been extended and that  many first time buyers will be able to use it in order to save a significant amount of money. The credit is actually applicable to both first time buyers as well as anyone who hasn’t owned a home in the past three years.

The credit is worth up to $8,000 and so it’s a major incentive for people to enter the market, which of course stimulates the economy. Those that may be weary about entering the market should be aware that prices are going to rise as the economy recovers, and so now is the time to enter the real estate market. This is especially true given the savings available through the tax credit that is being offered.

There is a very in depth video on this topic that explains more details concerning the tax credit. It also goes over the benefits to the economy, and how real estate has played a major role in the recovery from past recessions. It’s quite an interesting video, so feel free to enjoy it below:

January 27th, 2010Looking At Promo Products

If you run a business that you are looking to promote, you might consider sending out promotional products to your customers, or potential customers. Items like hats, shirts, personalized pens, stress balls, pencils, water bottles, magnets, key chains and more all make great promotional products, and you never know when they will lead to a sale. It is especially important to consider ordering such products if your business frequents trade shows, as generally people who frequent such shows are looking to purchase goods at some point, so they might as well have something with your number on it!

Because promotional products are usually ordered in large or bulk quantities they can be had for low prices, especially online. If you do a quick internet search you’ll be able to quickly find a large variety of promo products that can be personalized to reflect your company’s name, message and logo. It’s an effective and low cost method of advertising, so if you run a business it’s something to consider.

January 27th, 2010Considering A Small Trip

Man, do I ever need a vacation! Work has been very hectic and it seems like everyday one of my darling children has a new activity that they need to get to. Also, money has been tight and my husband has been very stressed out at his job. All of these things add up to a stressed out family and we really need a holiday. Unfortunately, we can’t afford to jet away to Hawaii, Paris, Rome or, well, anywhere actually. But we can afford a camping trip!

While the weather is not ideal for camping right now, it’s still doable as we live in a pretty mild climate. I actually like it when it gets cold at night as it means lots of cuddling by the roaring camp fire! We won’t really be roughing it anyway, as my parents have a pretty nice and new rv that we are able to borrow anytime. Actually, they weren’t sure how much use they would get out of the RV when they first bought it, but it has really turned into a great thing for the whole family. My parents, my husband and I (and our children), and his brothers family all use it. Especially in these tough times RVing and camping are just ideal for an affordable vacation.

January 26th, 2010Valentines Day Is Coming!

I have to say that even though it’s a couple of weeks away, but I’m already getting excited because one of my favorite days of the year is coming. If you don’t know which day I’m referring to, it’s Valentines Day of course. I know that some people think Valentines day is simply a made up commercial holiday, designed to make us buy each other things, but I disagree. Valentines day is a beautiful occasion where we are encouraged to express our love to the person closest to us. To me, that person is my husband and we will likely go out for a romantic night on the town to celebrate (he had better be planning one!)

I was thinking of surprising him with flowers this year for a change, and was happy to find a nice Telefora coupon which will help me save some money if I do decide to go the flowers route (I’d get him a dozen or so red roses). While it’s not traditional for the woman to buy the man flowers, I think my hubby will be quite flatter and get a kick out of it! Anyhow, feel free to use the Telefora coupon as well, as it’s an easy way to save on nice flowers.

January 25th, 2010Affordable Business Cards

As an aspiring entrepreneur, I’ve recently been looking into having some business cards made up in order to promote myself and my business. The first thing I did was call a bunch of local companies in order to inquire about their services and find out the rates they charge to design and produce personalized business cards. Unfortunately, the prices were quite shocking and I just didn’t want to spend the kind of money they were asking for. That lead me to the internet, where I thought that I could no doubt find a better deal.

The good news is that I was right, and found an abundance of cheap business cards available on the web. Not only are most of the business cards I found very affordable, but they are also very professional in appearance. In fact, I would be proud to hand them out to my potential customers and current client base. The prices on business cards online are super low, and that’s good because it means I can put more money into other parts of growing my business. Also, some websites offer nearly free business cards out there, so no matter what your budget is you’ll be able to find some nice business cards with just a little internet searching.

January 25th, 2010Cleaning House!

If there is one thing I can’t stand, it’s certainly a dirty house. I’m kind of a huge neat freak (just ask my family or look at my very clean house, and you’ll see), so I really hate dirt. Despite my dislike of dirt, I have quite a few pets as I love animals. Unfortunately, as anyone who has had dogs or cats knows, they sure do like to track dirt and mud in the house. For that reason I am thinking I might buy the powerful Dyson DC28 Airmuscle, as it is specifically designed to be able to pick up heavy amounts of animal fur and hair. That suits me and my family perfect, so we just might have to pick it up.

It’s good that such a vacuum exists, as we’ve burned through quite a few that just couldn’t handle the amount of dog hair it was required to pick up, not to mention my daughters long hairs that she seems to be constantly loosing. I could go on, I mean we also have a couple of cats, and not the little short haired darlings you see, but two exceptionally large, long haired furry guys. Of course I love them dearly, but I certainly don’t love the hairy mess they leave behind on the couch!
