July 4th, 2009Bing Takes Some of Google’s Market
Microsoft recently released the Bing search engine and, according to online data company StatCounter, it has gained U.S. market share in its first month. The Bing site had 8.23% of U.S. online searches compared to 7.81% for Microsoft search just before its launch and 7.21% in April. For its part, Yahoo increased from 10.99% to 11.04%. Google is still way ahead of the pack, but did drop a small amount to 78.48% from 78.72 %.
Bing’s adoption rate fluctuated in the first month of its existence, going from 9.21% to the subsequent 2 weeks being down and then returning to 8.45% during the latter part of June. Microsoft has been working hard on trying to improve its search services and get a bigger chunk of the market share. Although there were rumours about collaboration between Microsoft and Yahoo, no such official deal had been struck.
The data for this report is founded on 4 billion page loads per month tracked with the use of StatCounter’s website network. We will have to wait and see if these stats are duplicated and even show an ongoing acceptance for Bing.
