July 6th, 2009Identity Theft Highest Consumer Complaint in 2008
There is plenty of identity theft taking place, and people are voicing their complaint regarding it. Based on a report released Thursday by the Federal Trade Commission(FTC), identity theft ranked for 26 percent of all consumer complaints lodged last year. That works out to 300,000 cases of it, in a list that mentions debt collection, catalog sales and Internet services as the next most-frequent complaints. This report states that of all the most frequent types of identity theft, credit-card fraud was the highest at 20 percent. Following right behind were government documents/benefits fraud and employment fraud, both accounting for 15 percent. For future complaints, the FTC accepts information at http://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov or to call 1-877-FTC-HELP.
